The Sacraments

High School Religious Education

Sophomores: You are invited to join us, as well, as you prepare for the final sacrament of initiation into the Church—Confirmation. If you attend a Catholic high school, you only need to attend Confirmation sessions during the sophomore year. [You will be confirmed during the fall semester of your junior year.] If you attend a non-Catholic high school, the Archdiocese requires two full years of Catholic education before the sacrament. Therefore, you are required to attend CCD in 9th grade before beginning the confirmation program in the fall of your sophomore year. Confirmation sessions will meet once a month in the Parish Center from 7-8:30 P.M. on Sundays. We will learn about our faith and grow in fellowship as we prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Please see the registration forms located by the doors of the church or in the Parish Center. For more information please contact Justin Martineau, the Coordinator of Religious Education, at cre@hnjchurch.org or 504-865-7430 x206.

Adult Confirmation

Adult? Not Confirmed?  #890 of the Church’s Code of Canon Law says that “the faithful are obliged to receive this sacrament at the proper time.” This might be that time for you! We will be starting our fall series of adult Confirmation preparation sessions after Labor Day (September 5). They take place on Tuesday eventings. If you are interested, please contact Fr. Bob Hagan, S.J. as soon as possible at   865-7430, ext. 207.  He needs to interview and approve you before the sessions start.

Anointing & Reconciliation

We have an anointing service every few months at the 4:00PM Vigil Mass and Reconciliation every Saturday from 3:00PM – 3:45PM and by appointment by calling 865-7430.

Baptism

Baptisms are offered for our parishioners on the third Sunday of each month following the 10:30AM Mass.  All godparents and parents are to attend a one hour baptism class which is usually on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00PM.  Please call the parish office at 865-7430 to register for the class or to make arrangements for a baptism.

First Communion

Children in the second grade will make their First Communion.  Those children not in Catholic schools must attend CCD classes in first grade as well as second grade and will make their First Communion with the parish children.

Matrimony

The Sacrament of Matrimony is a very special one.  The times of our weddings are 7:30PM on Fridays and 11:00AM, 1:00PM and 7:00PM on Saturdays.

We do not have weddings on Friday nights during Lent.
